How to Sell Beauty Products on WhatsApp (Vendor Guide)

A playbook for beauty supply stores and cosmetics sellers on WhatsApp — how to present shades and sets, handle “is it available?”, price for delivery, and take payment without losing the sale.

Beauty is one of the strongest categories on WhatsApp, and one of the most repetitive to sell. The same few questions come up all day — Is it available? Do you have my shade? What’s in the set? How much with delivery? — and answering them well, fast, is most of the job.

This is a playbook for beauty supply stores and cosmetics sellers: what to set up, how to handle the repeat questions, and how to stop losing sales in the gap between enquiry and payment.

Step 1: Build Your Catalogue Around Choices

Beauty products are bought by specification. A foundation has a shade, a skincare set has a size, a lipstick has a colour. The customer cannot touch or try the product, so your catalogue has to carry all of that information clearly.

The rule is the same as any other category: one product per item, with its options as variants. Do not create “Matte Lipstick Red” and “Matte Lipstick Nude” as separate products. Create one product — Matte Lipstick — and add a variant for each shade, each with its own price. The customer then sees one product and picks the shade they want.

That structure matters later, too: when the order comes through, it records the exact variant, so you pack the right shade instead of guessing from the chat. If you have not built a catalogue yet, start with how to add products to your catalogue.

Use clear photos — and for beauty, close-up ones. Show the shade range, the texture, the packaging. A customer buying cosmetics online is buying your photograph as much as the product.

Step 2: Answer “Is It Available?” Without Thinking

“Is it available?” is the most common message in this category, and every hour it sits unanswered is a customer on the next vendor’s page. There are two ways to handle it.

The manual way is quick replies in the WhatsApp Business app — fine when you are at your phone, useless when you are not. The better way is to let an assistant answer from your catalogue at any hour. When a customer asks about a shade or a set, the assistant answers from the variants you set up, so the answer is always accurate and always instant.

You can also mark an item out of stock, and the assistant will stop offering it rather than promising something you cannot ship.

Step 3: Make Delivery a Non-Question

Beauty customers ask about delivery constantly, and the answer is often complicated: different rates for different parts of Lagos, or Abuja, or nationwide. Decide your rules once and let them apply automatically.

Set a flat fee, or a rate per area, and set a threshold above which delivery is free — a simple way to lift average order value. Once configured, the correct charge appears on every order without you calculating it mid-chat. See how to charge for delivery.

Step 4: Close the Sale In the Conversation

The moment you lose the most beauty sales is the gap between “I’ll take it” and money in your account. If the customer has to leave WhatsApp, open a bank app and come back, some of them will not come back.

Connect a payment gateway so they can pay from within the conversation, or take a bank transfer and confirm it. Either way, the order records the payment, so you are not reconciling screenshots later. See how to set up payment gateways.

For your regulars — the resellers who restock weekly, the customers who settle up monthly — you can hold store credit so they order against a balance instead of transferring every time.

Step 5: Keep Track and Let Customers Check

Once you are selling more than a handful a week, keep every order in one place with a visible status — awaiting payment, paid, processing, completed. Filter to the ones awaiting payment and you have your chase list; filter to processing and you have your packing list.

And let customers answer their own status questions: in the chat they can ask about their order and get the status back instantly, without you looking anything up. See tracking customer orders.

The Beauty Seller’s Checklist

  • One product per item, with shades and set sizes as variants with their own prices.
  • Close-up photos that show the shade range and texture.
  • Stock marked so you never promise what you cannot ship.
  • Delivery charges configured once, with a free-delivery threshold.
  • Payment inside the conversation.
  • Order status visible, and customers able to check it themselves.
  • An assistant answering availability questions while you are busy.

Beauty sells on trust and speed — the vendor who answers first, with the right photo and the right price, wins the sale. Set that up once and it runs while you restock. Create your free account and get your first products into your catalogue today.
