How to Sign Up and Connect Your WhatsApp Number: A Step-by-Step Onboarding Guide

New to Whapick? Here is exactly how to create your account, add your business details, and link your WhatsApp number through Meta's official signup — while keeping your existing number and the WhatsApp Business app.

Whapick Team•21 September 2026

Getting started with Whapick takes about five minutes. You create an account, tell us a little about your business, and connect your WhatsApp number through Meta’s official signup. When you’re done, your number is live on the WhatsApp Business Platform and ready to take orders and answer customers automatically.

The most common worry we hear is “will I lose my number or my WhatsApp Business app?” The answer is no — and we’ll explain exactly why below. Here is the whole process, step by step.

Do This on a Computer, Not Your Phone

Connect your number from a laptop or desktop computer. This is the single most important tip in this guide. Connecting through Meta’s onboarding on a phone has been unreliable for most people — the pop-up that handles the signup often closes, freezes, or fails to hand the details back before the connection finishes, and you’re left starting over.

The connection itself is a web flow. On a desktop browser it completes far more dependably:

  • Keep the tab open until you see the success screen. Don’t switch apps or let the screen lock mid-flow.
  • Use a normal browser like Chrome or Safari on the computer. If you use the phone, the in-app browsers inside WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram are the worst place to do this — avoid them entirely.
  • The confirmation step still happens in your WhatsApp Business app on your phone. That part is expected — you scan the QR code or enter the code shown — but everything else is easier on a computer.

You don’t need to install anything. Any computer with a browser and an internet connection will do. If you have no access to a computer at all, you can still try from a mobile browser, but expect to retry, and read the troubleshooting section if it fails.

Before You Start

Have these ready:

  • Your WhatsApp Business number — the number you already use with customers. You do not need a new SIM.
  • A business email address — used for your account and for billing and alert notifications.
  • Your WhatsApp Business app installed on the phone that holds that number, so you can confirm the connection from inside the app.
  • 2-step verification turned off on your WhatsApp Business account. Meta requires it to be off while the number is being registered for messaging. This is temporary — you turn it back on as soon as onboarding finishes. It does not affect your number or your app.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Head to the register page and sign up with a username, your email address, and a password. You’ll also tick the box to accept our terms and privacy policy — this is required, and it is enforced on the server, not just in the form.

Once your account is created, you are taken straight to the WhatsApp setup flow.

Step 2: Add Your Business Details

The first onboarding screen asks for the basics that configure your WhatsApp messaging profile:

  • Business name — how your business is identified.
  • Business email — where we send account and billing notifications.
  • WhatsApp phone number — the number you are connecting.
  • Timezone — we auto-detect this from your browser, but you can change it from the dropdown.

Fill these in and click Continue.

Step 3: Connect Your WhatsApp Business Account

This is the important step — and the one to do on a computer. Open Whapick in your desktop browser, go to the setup page, then click Connect WhatsApp Account and you are taken to Meta to authorise the connection. It is a secure OAuth flow — we never see or store your WhatsApp password.

Here is what happens during the Meta signup:

  1. You log in to Meta and approve the connection to your WhatsApp Business Account.
  2. Meta confirms your business and phone number details.
  3. You confirm the connection from inside your WhatsApp Business app — either by scanning the QR code shown or by entering the code Meta gives you.

You may also be asked to add a payment method during Meta’s onboarding to enable WhatsApp payments. This is Meta’s own step for messaging charges, separate from your Whapick subscription.

You Keep Your Number and Your App

This is the part people worry about most, so let’s be clear: you do not give up your number, and you do not give up the WhatsApp Business app. Meta’s official Coexistence feature runs the WhatsApp Business app and the WhatsApp Business Platform on the same number at the same time.

That means you can keep replying to customers by hand from your phone while Whapick handles automation, orders and 24/7 replies on that same number. Your contacts and up to 6 months of one-to-one chat history can carry over, and messages stay in sync between the app and the API.

It is officially supported by Meta — not a workaround and not a number takeover. Two things to remember:

  • Turn 2-step verification back on once onboarding finishes. Turning it off is a temporary requirement for registration only.
  • Do not uninstall or delete the WhatsApp Business app after connecting. Doing so disconnects the number. This is the single most important thing to avoid.

It’s worth knowing that a few app features behave differently once a number is on Coexistence: group chats, broadcast lists, disappearing messages, view-once messages, live location and voice/video calls are limited, and linked companion devices may need to be re-linked. Ordinary one-to-one chats with customers keep working normally.

Step 4: We Verify the Connection

After you approve the connection, Whapick verifies everything behind the scenes:

  • Fetching your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) ID
  • Linking your phone number ID
  • Validating the access token

This usually takes a few seconds. If it hasn’t resolved after about 15 seconds, the screen offers a button to go back and try connecting again, so you are never left stuck on a spinner.

Step 5: You’re Live

When the connection is confirmed, you’ll see the setup-complete screen. From there:

  • Your WhatsApp Business Account is connected
  • The messaging API is active
  • Your number still works in the WhatsApp Business app
  • Your account is ready to use

Turn 2-step verification back on in your WhatsApp Business account, then click through to your chats and start setting up your products and services.

What to Do After You’re Connected

Onboarding gets your number live. To get the most out of it:

  • Add your products so customers can browse and order from WhatsApp.
  • Add your knowledge base so the assistant can answer questions about your business accurately.
  • Set your welcome message and tone so first-time customers get a greeting that sounds like you.
  • Import or add contacts and organise them into groups for broadcasts.
  • Connect a fulfillment provider if you sell data, airtime or physical goods and want orders fulfilled automatically.

Troubleshooting

  • Connecting from your phone didn’t work. This is the most common problem, and it is why we recommend a computer. Retry the whole setup from a laptop or desktop browser instead of your phone.
  • The connection didn’t complete. Return to the setup page and click Connect again. Make sure you finish the confirmation step inside your WhatsApp Business app.
  • Verification timed out. The setup screen will offer a “Back to Connect” button after 15 seconds. Try the Meta signup again.
  • Meta won’t let you register the number. Check that 2-step verification is turned off on your WhatsApp Business account, then retry.
  • Your number disconnected. This usually means the WhatsApp Business app was uninstalled or deleted. Reinstall the app and reconnect through the setup page.

Conclusion

Signing up and connecting your number is a five-minute job: create an account, add your business details, connect through Meta, and confirm from your WhatsApp Business app. You keep your number and your app the whole time, and once you’re done, Whapick is ready to answer customers and take orders on your behalf.
